Just keeps swerving from one side of the road to the other. Make up your mind.

Playing around with drawing and painting in Manga Studio 5 with Ray Frenden’s brushes. It’s got a pretty great brush engine for an $80 piece of software, and, despite the name, you can use it to draw things other than giant breasts.

Watercolor sketch of the Atlantic Ocean from a while back. Mostly trying to get a feel for the color — a gradient of beautiful blue-greens — but also some surface effects with with the texture of the paper.

Took an introductory Maya class at Glendale Community College a while back. Never have I run across an more imposing and unfamiliar application, so paying for a guided tour of the interface and basic concepts of 3D was well worth it. The quality of instruction was a tremendous bargain.

Of course, one class is not enough to learn to do much with the program. Exhibit A: the video above in which I demonstrate the most rudimentary grasp of modeling, rigging and lighting. But it’s infinitely more than I knew when I started.
